5 Charming Christmas Poems

5 Charming Christmas Poems

Since I was young, I’ve had a soft spot in my heart for poetry. I decided Blogmas was a good excuse to have a nosy around the internet for some Christmas poems to share.

I wanted to stick with shorter ones, otherwise ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clark Moore by would have been in here. That’s my favourite!

Christmas – M. E. Miro

Christmas is more than a day in December,
It’s all of those things that we love to remember.
Its carolers singing familiar refrains,
Bright colored stockings and shiny toy trains,
Streamers of tinsel and glass satin balls,
Laughter that rings through the house and its halls.
Christmas is more than a day in December,
Its the magic and the love
That we’ll always remember.

The Joy of Giving – John Greenleaf Whittier

Somehow, not only for Christmas,
But all the long year through,
The joy that you give to others
Is the joy that comes back to you;
And the more you spend in blessing
The poor and lonely and sad,
The more of your heart’s possessing
Returns to make you glad.

What Do We Love About Christmas? – Joanna Fuchs

What do we love about Christmas;
Does our delight reside in things?
Or are the feelings in our hearts
The real gift Christmas brings.

It’s seeing those we love,
And sending Christmas cards, too,
Appreciating people who bring us joy
Special people just like you.

Let Everyday Be Christmas – Norman W. Brooks

Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
For loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away,
Like bells and lights and tinsel,
In some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others
Is good you do yourself.

Gifts At Christmas – Vivian Gouled

There are gifts to buy,
And gifts to make,
But there are other gifts
Worth while
Being helpful,
Being kind,
And ready with a smile,
Being friendly,
Doing things to please –
I’ve made up my mind
At Christmas time
I’m giving some of these!

Ah, this is lovely, Ruth. I have to admit I’ve not come across any of these poems before but the best thing is that they all talk about the spirit of giving and thoughtfulness, which is not just for Christmas. I’ve been loving your Blogmas series, always something so thoughtful every day. And your wonderful affirmation calendar with Zara too of course! xx
