The first thing I have to say about Kiss and Bake Up before I get into anything else is I love their name! It just makes me smile.
Anyway, on to the good stuff.
There are two things you should know about me which will explain why I was thrilled about this opportunity.
Firstly, I love the idea of baking but two things usually put me off: weighing out the ingredients (yawn) and cleaning up afterwards (no thanks).
The other thing is that I LOVE a tasty treat! I will jump at any excuse to have one. Hit a Twitter milestone? Get a cake. Not feeling great? Bar of chocolate and a cup of tea. I know, I know, it doesn’t make for a healthy lifestyle but it does make for a happier one in my case.
The rise of companies delivering treats to your door suits me perfectly. Kiss and Bake Up is one such company, specialising in brownies. They are freshly baked to order and then sent to you.
Or, if you want to treat somebody else (which is always nice to do!), you can do that instead and include a message to make somebody’s day. Their arrival certainly made mine!
I had four flavours to choose from: original, Maltesers, orange and salted caramel.
Other flavours they offer are cherry, peanut butter, Oreo, turkish delight and mint.
The two I decided to try for this post were the original one, and the Maltesers one. I’m going to share the others with Neal. Maybe.
When I opened the plastic packaging, the first thing I noticed was the smell.
Oh. my. goodness.
You know when you smell something and you just know it’s going to taste delicious? That.
The ingredients and best before date are on stickers on the back. If you wanted gluten free brownies, the Kiss and Bake Up team are happy to discuss your requirements via email!
Sadly, since getting braces, a lot of my favourite treats are off the table because they’re too difficult to eat, or run the risk of damaging my brace.
So, the fact these brownies were super soft was a huge plus. It meant I could nibble into them and enjoy. Yay!
I expected the two flavours I chose to be similar, but they were actually quite different. The original brownie had a very rich chocolate flavour, which was good for a chocoholic like me, but it might not be to everyone’s taste.
Then, in true Maltesers style, this one was a little lighter. Of the two, the Maltesers one was my favourite. It was a little square of heaven.
I’m looking forward to trying the other two flavours, probably alongside a nice cup of tea!
At the moment, you can only choose one flavour to be sent, rather than the selection box I was sent for samples. It costs £20, including posting and packaging, for 16 brownies. Alternatively, you can order it as a slab so you can cut it any way you want (for example, a big bit for you, and a slither for someone else).
I think this would be a great treat to indulge in for a birthday party or social event. I would have loved these for the week my family were visiting, but I can have them all to myself so I’m not complaining.
A brownie wouldn’t usually be my treat of choice (I’m a cupcake kind of girl) but maybe I simply haven’t been eating the right ones.
Now, thanks to Kiss and Bake Up, I’ve had a brownie how it’s supposed to be. Made with care, soft and sweet, and just enough to hit the spot. I’d love to try the peanut butter flavour in the future!
So, next time you’ve got something to celebrate – whether it’s big or small, for you or for somebody else – why not give them a try?
If you’ve already tried them, which flavour is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!
